Smooth Sailing
The words of the old Pirate Radio jingle that included the lyric “It’s Smooth Sailing” haven’t rung true over the last few weeks. High winds, torrential rain & heavy seas severely hampered the building of the studios, installation of the generator plant & erection of the radio mast on Red Sands Fort
But with a stupendous effort from the whole team, & some wonderful selfless help from dedicated professional friends, by Sunday evening 8th July for the first time in 40 years the Fort now boasts a superb antenna towering above the sea. With the generators fired for the first time & much back batting mugs of celebratory tea were passed around
Robin Adcroft of project-redsand said “The spirit & galvanisation of the team was something to behold, it’s incredible how much has been achieved, Bob & I are so grateful to all our professional friends who’ve given so much to make this happen” Red Sands Radio will be on air from on 14th July 2007 in the build up to Whitstable Oyster Festival on 1278kHz that’s 235 metres medium wave
