Collar & Tie
One of the most respected Radio 390 presenters returns to the Forts. Radio 390 once most respectable of the Pirates played easy listening targeted at the housewife. Not quite collar & tie but as close to the BBC light programme as you could get but with lots more music
Senior announcer John Ross-Barnard will host a series of memoirs in which he’ll recall some of the highs & lows, amusing & not so amusing moments from the early days of popular music radio on the Red Sands Fort
John now a broadcast consultant started his long career on Radios Invicta, K.I.N.G & 390 from the Red Sands Forts before he joined Britain Radio, another Pirate on a ship before going to the BBC
Said John “It’ll be a great thrill to be on a station that comes from the original Fort. My first break into radio was in 1964 on the Red Sands Forts, I’ve got all sorts of recollections of my time there, it’s amazing 40 years later I’ll be broadcasting from the Fort again
