Sutch a Do
When the second world war Army Forts were left by the MoD in 1958, it was something of a surprise when eccentric Rock Horror Singer David “Screaming Lord” Sutch & his Manager Reg Calvert took over the Shivering Sands to launch Radio Sutch in May 1964.
Squatting with little money & meagre equipment the novice station struggled to stay on air. There were cries for help & pleas for petrol, water & food being heard in the early days.
Now we reflect on those beginnings as we launch Red Sands Radio from the adjacent Thames Estuary Forts on Red Sands, once home of the original Radio Invicta, later K.I.N.G & Radio 390.
“We will be paying tribute to Radio Sutch, which became Radio City & the stations that broadcast from our Fort, but Radio is Now & Next so we’re about today & tomorrow”
Supporting the famous Whitstable Oyster Festival, listen to Red Sands Radio for a wide variety of “The Best of Yesterday & Today”
Radio Red Sands launches on 14th July 2007 comes to air For more information telephone 07961 601 893
